Amusing putting the "video" in flash format, which Apple (Jobs) successfully destroyed.

      @dheady@...

I thought it was Steve Ballmer that destroyed mobile Flash for WOA tablets.

Apple has an almost insignificant world wide market share compared to Windows and Linux (at least that is what I keep reading since 1990) that putting the blame for mobile Flash's demise on poor Steve Job's gravestone gives way too much importance to Apple's influence on the mighty Adobe and Microsoft universe.

I do agree with you, dheady, that mobile Flash was an excellent example of secure, high quality modern software coding (which never crashed on mobile devices - ever!) that I am left flabbergasted over why Abobe would abandon it?

So, you really think Steve Jobs destroyed such a wonderful bit of software coding? Well, maybe your right.

Oh, did you mean mobile Flash or desktop Flash? I seem to be viewing this Flash video perfectly well on my iMac's web browser.

  • Next Mac O/S

Jason, you forgot to mention what the next version of the Apple O/S is going to be named (g) Windows 8 LoL
NOT a JOKE. Apple is OUT of the Operating System Business.

@mikeholli that's the only way to change their fate. Either adopt Windows, or Perish!

@Stephen-B - Are you really that blinkered in your professional views. I have not seen any post from you that says anything other than blind praise for Microsoft Windows 7 or 8 or what ever comes out in the future. No valued content at all.

@mikeholli, lucky we don't have you at the helm of any company. Successful companies are driven by profit, and will develop things they think sell. Every company attempts to second guess the market.

I use a computer, something that exists now, not something that is a possibility in the near or distant future. I chose to buy a tablet, and you know what, it's great. It's not capable of doing everything, but what it does, it does really well.

It could be an Android Tablet or it could be an iPad, the manufacturer is irrelevant. When Microsoft come out with something, they will appeal to an audience that wants to use a tablet that works the way they do. One killing the other is not what this post is about, it's about good design.

Good products sell well because they are exactly that. Apple has been in business as long as Microsoft, but Microsoft from day one were a software company and Apple have always been a hardware company. Google are an advertising company, search or the android OS just allows them to offer a service that targets adverts and keeps users in their walled garden. Microsoft will do the same, try to keep you in their walled garden.

I'll tell you what, why don't you dispense with the wind ups and do something creative instead. Make a video of all the good things Microsoft has done, there are hundreds of products and services, then post it on the ZD Net web site.

Go on, let that little bit of Apple in you guide your actions and - Be different. Try it you might like the feeling.

@mikeholli Apple has never been in the O/S business. Apple has always been in the hardware systems business. Apple permits their software (e.g., iTunes) to run on other systems only to induce people on those other systems to buy Apple hardware.

@jomali3945 Your attempt at reason in this venue is like spitting into the wind. Especially since you're absolutely correct. 'adopt Windows or perish'? One wonders from what alternate universe such delusions emanate.

Always seems weird to see "Apple History" without the NeXT years - seems the most significant part is missing.<br><br>Mac OS X (developed from NeXTSTEP)<br>iOS (Developed from NeXTSTEP)<br>iTunes Music/Video/App Store (Developed on WebObjects)<br><br>So missing NeXT's various technologies seems (almost) disingenuously incomplete.

Speaking of good or bad design, one really baaad design is this bloody stupid web page that jumps about randomly displaying ads that can't be seen and disrupting any attempt to view the movie. Don't you guys ever look at your own output?

Kinda interesting that the only view to hold for a bit longer (what, like maybe 1 whole second) was the iPhone. Arguably the most important product they every have (or will?) produced.
