What Apple didn't announce at Macworld Expo

Reader Mark W. emailed me his list of announcements he wished Apple would have announced at Macworld Expo, but didn't. The short list

  • no Apple TV upgrade
  • no Mac Mini upgrade
  • no matte-finish laptop screen option (for the 13 and 15, anyway)
  • no new desktop displays (for the entire line)
  • no Final Cut Pro upgrade
  • no iPhone nano
  • no Snow Leopard update
  • and that doesn't even include Apple stabbing a knife into the heart of Macworld Expo. (Would it really kill them to have a scaled-down presence at the show?)

While this list of missed opportunities probably made a lot of people livid, announcing everything above would have amounted to an eight hour keynote.

Does the lack of announcements at Macworld Expo mean that Apple is further de-emphasizing the importance of the almighty "trade show," instead deciding to announce new products on its own terms? Or were the products simply not ready in time? a.k.a. the Paul Masson approach, "We'll sell no wine before its time."

Tough to say, but at least the Mac mini refresh appears to be getting closer, with a March announcement being floated by MacRumors.
