What not to do: Fool around with SyncServices

By | June 11, 2008, 10:10am PDT

Summary: A recent Apple technote warns to never, ever fool around with any of the many SyncServices folders or subdirectories.

A recent Apple technote warns to never, ever fool around with any of the many SyncServices folders or subdirectories.

As if it were a swarm of bees, you should stay away from the SyncServices folder in Mac OS X. Removing or modifying anything in it—or in subfolders within it—may cause unexpected issues. This folder is located in your Application Support folder, in your Library folder, in your Home folder.

The note says that deleting or modifying items in these folders “may cause unexpected results,” including data loss or duplicate items in Address Book and iCal.

Of course, SyncServices syncs and you could lose or screw up the same data in your iPhone or iPod or on your .Mac account. “This means data could be lost on other computers,” the note warns.

Yeah, it's recent if you mean way more than a year old.

Here's a quick news tip: OS 9 is dead.

The technote IS recent
always-a-geek 12th Jun 2008
He said the technote was recent, not the issue. Read the link. It was released June 10 of this year, and specifically addresses OS X, not OS 9. Sheez. Give the guy a break.

Hey buddy,

1) The MODIFIED DATE was set to June. That doesn't speak
to its creation date.

2) If you'd bothered to READ the link I supplied, you'd have
seen in the comments that this tech article (with this
wording) has been around since at least January of last
year.

3) The OS 9 "tip" was mocking the freshness of finding this
technote.

Next time, why don't you try reading? You might learn
something.
