The app store market is getting a bit smaller. Adobe has announced that it will be shutting down its two application marketplaces.

The two portals in question are the Adobe InMarket and AIR Marketplace. Adobe hasn't offered much of an explanation, except that the decision has been made "based on feedback from developers." From now on, Adobe will instead encourage and support developerse to design mobile apps for the Apple App Store, Android Market, BlackBerry App World, Intel AppUp center, Samsung Apps, and Toshiba App Place.

From now on, Adobe will no longer accept applications for the Adobe InMarket. App proposals still in the queue will be reviewed by Intel. Additionally, Adobe will no longer publish updates for apps distributed through the Adobe AIR Marketplace.

Any developers who have published via Intel AppUp should be getting new credentials by August 31 for the Intel AppUp developer program. After that date, the InMarket will be completely shuttered. Payments will still come directly from Intel via Paypal.

9to5Mac suggests that this is yet another win for Apple in the two tech companies' ongoing feud. That's not hard to argue with considering that several major companies with apps in the iTunes App Store (including Kobo and Amazon) have bended to Apple's rules and removed their in-app store purchase features today.

  • Bent?

    bended (bndd)
v. Archaic
A past participle of bend

Then there's "developerse" - maybe unintentional concatentation of "developer" and "universe?"
