Airbnb is already known amongst the most frequent (and even frugal) of travelers when it comes to lodging domestically or abroad. Now the start-up is going on a European adventure of its own.
The San Francisco-based travel website recently bought out its German counterpart (or clone?) Accoleo. Thus, as The Next Web reports, Airbnb's newest employees haven't gone anywhere...except on a trans-Atlantic (work) trip of their own:
In the 6 weeks since the acquisition, former Accoleo employees have been on a tear; first becoming a part of the Airbnb family (and all the SFO based training that goes with it), returning to Germany to open the company’s first official European office, and finally, recruiting a hand picked selection of city representatives from some 400+ applications. The firm now has local representation on the ground in 10 cities across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, with offices established in Berlin, Munich and Vienna in addition to the Hamburg HQ.
As "more than 60 percent of Airbnb’s revenue" is generated internationally, it's fairly obvious that Airbnb should be expanding as fervently as possible to build a sound and solid global network. Another way that Airbnb plans to stake its claim as the go-to site for booking anything from couches to fully-furnished short-term stay apartments? Good ol' customer service.
At least the start-up, founded in 2008, is keeping that mantra alive within its own offices. Airbnb has also attracted buzz lately because of the frills designed to please and retain employees at its San Francisco headquarters. However, given all of the extraordinary perks seen at Airbnb and other start-ups as of late, The Wall Street Journal describes these offices spaces in a bubble-like fashion as they're "partying like it's 1999."
Hopefully Airbnb's new employees over in Hamburg can at least expect equal treatment.
