TThe AlwaysOn Summit 2006 got off to a start tonight on the Stanford University campus. The event is being Webcast live. Host Tony Perkins opened the proceedings, outlining the program and primary theme—why it’s a great time to be an entrepreneur. The cost of starting an Internet company (Skype, YouTube, MySpace as examples) has greatly decreased since phase one of the Web, after the bubble burst, he said. “When you look at the AO 100 this year, it's first year more new companies landed on the list than old companies graduated up,” Perkins said. Of course, only a few of those companies have a chance to go on to be in the class of the examples given above.
