Amazon inked a content licensing deal with Fox to bolster its streaming content library.

The deal comes as Netflix is looking to land more content deals as it focuses primarily on streaming content.

Amazon said its Prime service will now have more than 11,000 movies and TV shows this fall.

It's becoming increasingly obvious that Amazon is gunning for Netflix and the timing seems about right. Netflix is struggling with customer backlash over privacy changes as well as a decision to separate its DVD by mail business, which is now called Quikster.

TV shows and movies included in the Amazon-Fox deal are the "X-Files, 24, "Arrested Development" and "Speed," "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Doctor Dolittle."

I love Netflix and their decision to split off from their DVDs when their streaming offering is pitiful.

I've got prime, maybe I'll check it out.

@Aerowind Prime is definitely worth the look. They don't have the library the Netflix has, but they're building. And for Prime members, there are a lot of free view movies and shows. I've been watching the entire Star Trek Deep Space Nine series gratis.

@NCWeber - I've been doing the same, which is a series that Netflix doesn't offer via streaming (but offers Voyager). Netflix seems to be the place for old movies and shows, but anything current or from the last decade or so, pull up Amazon Prime videos.

DS-9, eh? Just this past weekends some friends of mine (netflix streaming customers) were complaining about how they're itching to watch DS-9 after watching some of the other series on netflix, but its not available for streaming.

So you say you've been watching it on Amazon Prime streaming? I have that already! Awesome.

I don't think this is exclusive, Netflix has many of these titles already.

Prime needs a mobile app! I'll admit it still looks good via the web based flash player on my bionic, but an app with easier navigation would be nice.

@Bruce Banter Now, where could Amazon find a Mobile App? Tablet? Hmmm, maybe the family of tablets that Amazon will first birth later this month. You don't suppose Amazon would put any items/apps/content/functionality on those tablets to motivate tablet users to engage with the Amazon ecommerce and media ecosystems ? Jeff's a pretty smart guy.

Amazon prime is okay; it would be better if Amazon could stream to TIVO for its prime members.

It would be nice if you could stream through the Xbox 360. I signed up for Prime which I love for shipping but was dissappointed that it won't stream through the Xbox.
