There aren’t many Windows Phone 7 devices in circulation, but Amazon’s Kindle App will be there when they arrive.

Amazon will soon launch its Kindle for Windows Phone 7 app so it can be the first e-book seller on Microsoft’s latest phone software. The Kindle app for Windows Phone 7 will land later this year.

With the move, Amazon has every major mobile platform coming and then some.

You know the drill from here. Amazon’s Kindle for Windows Phone 7 app will sync with your other devices, pull down content from your archive and offer a wide selection.

Microsoft demonstrated the Amazon Kindle app at its Professional Developers Conference. Microsoft is working diligently to show that it will have a wide app selection for its latest mobile operating system.

thats may be true for hardware that takes time to make it through the channel, for downloadable software i've always found launch = available

announce = soon to be available

when you launch a ship - it means its actually in the water and going places , not that you are starting to build it!

My iPhone 4 is great

but I really can't wait for MS to implement those couple features that are currently missing so that I can switch to a phone that is a bit more functional. The utter lack of information on both the lock screen and the home screen on my iPhone makes me far less productive than I was on WM6.X.

I also laugh because the whole "grid of icons" UI on the iPhone is such a desktop paradigm. It is as if Apple looked at a badly organized desktop PC and said "Hey, let's put that on a phone!!!". MS has truly innovated the phone UI with Metro. Good job MS!
@NonZealot - Question: When was the last time you copy/cut and pasted on your cellphone? I do it about once every 6 months - is certainly not a feature that would stop me from purchasing a phone ... especially one which is going to get this feature in a few weeks.

As for multi-tasking ... again, WinPhone7 has quite a sophisticated multi-tasking capability which signals your app when the user switches away so that you can quiece. If you, the app, remain "quiet" (i.e. not using much CPU/memory) and the phone doesn't need the memory you currently consume, then your app will stay running. If the memory you consume is required, you get tombstoned - you get to save state and the process is killed. Then, when you get reactivated, you can start where the user left off. This all happens so quickly that most users won't even notice that a given app has stopped and restarted!

Fair questions

While I don't use copy and paste every day, I use it often enough that I would miss it were I not to have it.

Multi-tasking is probably less of a big deal. I gave Apple a lot of props for their push notification system when they came out with it because I'm quite convinced that this solves the biggest problem that multi-tasking has traditionally been used to solve. I believe WP7 has the same type of system so that's good. I can tell you, however, that a few of the non-multitasking enabled apps on the iPhone are very annoying to use. Epicurious, for example, forces you to sit through a 3+ second splash screen every time you start it up. Yes, that is most likely the app's fault but if the OS had multi-tasking, this wouldn't be an issue at all. I also wonder what the effects of not being able to maintain a wireless connection in some apps when they get "minimized". For example, I use a couple remote control apps on my iPhone and I can switch away and switch back and I'm still connected. Not sure if that is thanks to proper multi-tasking.

But, I could probably live without those on a day to day basis, maybe. Of course, I can also live without notifications on my home screen and lock screen too. happy

No, for me the bigger issue is the lack of certain APIs in general, and no VOIP apps specifically. I have a Skype phone collecting dust right now because my iPhone is my Skype phone. Unless I'm mistaken, there is no Skype coming to WP7 until the networking API is improved. That is a showstopper for me personally.

So I would say those are my killer apps: remote control apps that I need to be able to switch to instantly and Skype. Without those, I can't personally consider buying WP7. I have faith they will be coming within the next year though, I'm not worried. happy

@De-Void I have to agree with the cut/copy paste comment. I find the totally humorous when it's issued as a "fail"...but I usually consider the source.
