Advanced Micro Devices is prepping its Barcelona chip for lift off on Sept. 10, but it's unclear who will run the sales effort.

AMD confirmed that Rick Hegberg, senior vice president of worldwide sales, plans to leave the company. Hegberg reported to Henri Richard, AMD's worldwide sales and marketing chief. Hegberg's departure was reported first by Fudzilla and later by the Wall Street Journal.

Hegberg is that latest ATI Technologies alum to leave. David Orton, former CEO of ATI, resigned after the merger integration.

The timing of these departures isn't so hot. AMD will need someone to pitch Barcelona, a chip that the company is hoping can thwart Intel.
