Android ruled 2010, but 2011 gains may be harder to come by

Summary: Android took over the mobile landscape. However, 2011 may tell a more interesting tale.

SHARE:

Google's Android was the story of 2010 as the mobile operating system became the largest smartphone platform, according to data from Canalys.

Here's the breakdown via Canalys:

Hard to argue with those statistics. Android took over the mobile landscape. However, 2011 may tell a more interesting tale.

A few items noted by Canalys:

  • Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 shipped too late to make it into the fourth quarter recap. If you assume that Microsoft sold anything that'll move the needle somewhat.
  • Verizon is getting the iPhone. That move should meaningfully move Apple up the charts perhaps at Android's expense.
  • However, Android is going to AT&T too.

In other words, 2010 was clearly the year of Android. In 2011, future gains will be harder to come by.

About the chart. Vendor? The only one I see providing licenses for compensation is Microsoft.

OS Writers or Maintainers might be more accurate.

  • Honeycomb tells the tale...

When honeycomb hits with the 130 tabs that are coming to market this year, Android will skyrocket and garner another 15% of market share.

I've come to expect zdn to do a little more than tell us the 'bleedin obvious', but I guess I can forgive the occasional lapse.

OF COURSE growth will slow; what is up for grabs is the RATE of growth.

You can't 'assume' serious growth from MS7; we need the facts. Plus we don't yet know how quickly the other OSs (Crackberry, HP and Nokia) will fall away.

What is for sure is that Android will continue to grow for a while yet. And Apple will stay steady.

As for tabs - I don't disagree with Cyberslammer3, but I hope and expect the smartphone/tab markets will be viewed separately.

A good number of people don't freak out at fake watches, rolex 118206 maybe it is a mirror of the economy, indifference to quality or some other harmless reasons. "It doesn't really matter, as long as it tells the time accurately" would be a major view on the subject, but it pays to save up for a good timepiece. Apart from the A-list brands, there are other rolex 116000 brands which are budget friendly and registered which you could wear and rest assured that you are wearing a rolex 118239 wristwatch.
My interest in watches consequently fuelled my findings into distinguishing the replicas from the originals. If you desire a real rolex 116523 watch, a few payoff facts would include studying the collections of the brand of watch you wish to buy. Also, getting familiar with the front and back inscriptions and engravings is important as smeared letterings, substituted inscriptions in
