Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
Summary: Apple posted all-time record sales for its iPhone, iPad and Mac lines, including more than 37 million iPhones and 15.43 million iPads sold during the last quarter.
Apple was expected to post a strong showing for its first fiscal quarter earnings release on Tuesday, courtesy of the iPhone 4S, and those iPhone sales came through.
Apple reported a fiscal first quarter net income of $13.06 billion, or $13.87 a share (statement). Non-GAAP earnings were $14.03 a share on a revenue of $46.33 billion.
Wall Street was expecting fiscal first quarter earnings of $10.08 a share on revenue of $38.85 billion.
More so, Apple posted all-time record sales for its iPhone, iPad and Mac lines. Here's a snapshot of the number of units sold for each brand during the last quarter:
- 37.04 million iPhones sold, a 128 percent increase over the first fiscal quarter of 2011

- 5.2 million Macs sold, a 26 percent increase
The only one that saw a significant decline was the iPod unit, with 15.4 million iPods sold -- a 21 percent decline from the year-ago quarter.
CEO Tim Cook commented in prepared remarks:
We’re thrilled with our outstanding results and record-breaking sales of iPhones, iPads and Macs. Apple’s momentum is incredibly strong, and we have some amazing new products in the pipeline.
For the outlook, Apple is predicting a revenue of $32.5 billion at the end of the second fiscal quarter with earnings at $8.50 per share.

Congratulations Apple
Oops, I meant to say smartphone and tablet markets.
However
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
Isn't it time that you grew-up!
Grow up?
"Or as Marco Arment wrote almost seven months ago, there still really is no "tablet" market ??? just an iPad market."
Search ZDNet for David Morgenstern's piece about Apple iPad to gain traction in SMB market in 2012 from NDP study:
What the buyers really mean by "tablets" is Apple iPad.
I'm not the only one claiming that there is no tablet market. I have some very fine company. Do you believe John Gruber and David Morgenstern should grow up too?
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
It's always fun to read NonZealot's (sorry - "toddybottom's") posts after there's good news about Apple. He seems to consider it to be a personal affront. He's been this way for a while.
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
I'm sorry, I don't understand.. He said congratulations, he said that Apple dominates the two main markets they compete in.
Do you disagree with him?
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
He did nothing of the sort unless he went in and re-edited his post after the fact.
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
You obviously have not seen or used the Windows Phone 7.5
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
He hasn't... and neither have the greater portion of smartphone users.
They are all using iOS and android!
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
Nor has anyone else...

Hey Pete, don't tell that to me
I'm just Todd. My readership numbers in the 10s. You should tell that to David Morgenstern and John Gruber, both have stated that there is absolutely no competition to the iPad (I tried to link to them above) and both have readerships in the millions. If you feel that strongly that there actually is competition in the iPad... oops, tablet market then you need to convince the ones who are listened to by millions of people. Convincing me that there is competition won't do anything substantial to spread your version of the truth. You let me know when John Gruber and David Morgenstern believe there is competition. When that happens, I'll reconsider my position. Deal?
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
ridiculous numbers...
Its kinda funny, the day I suggested that, someone posted back that investing in Microsoft might be a better idea. Mmmmmm, lets see, Apple went from $196 to $450, microsoft from what, $25 to $25!!
You got both of those right
"Apple is an absolute juggernaut, crushing the competition"
Soon Apple will be the only one left in these markets. Then consumers won't have to worry about distinguishing between artificial and real choice since they won't have any choice at all.
"Apple went from $196 to $450, microsoft from what, $25 to $25!!"
Yes. During the 80s and 90s, you would have been a complete fool to invest in Apple and very wise to invest in Microsoft. Now Apple is the better investment. That is the nature of business.

I wonder why we don't hear from Harry Bardal any more.... This comment would be right up his alley.
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
And who's fault it that, troll?
So where's the 37.04 million WP8 phones at? ;)
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
The real issue of their enormous success is the means by which they garner much of their (modern) growth, and the (bully-boy) means by which they currently seek to crush all even potential opposition... Given the way Jobs' crowed in early interview about his unabashed stealing of other ideas, if only to make them better, their behaviour kinda sickens me
RE: Apple: 37.04 million iPhones sold in Q1
Microsoft sells a lot more than just a very few consumer end-devices. They have a complete infrastructure that Apple will probably never get. They have complete development environments, that Apple will probably never get. They have servers, SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) tools, database management systems and on and on. If Apple is the answer to everything, then why aren't they on the desktop in any significant way? How many iPad users have you seen that use that tool for everything - then compare it with the opposite, how many have you seen that do it all on their PC's?
Apple is having success because they are focused on just the end consumer - nothing else...
