Apple on Tuesday said it will roll out a redesigned Mac mini that will run $699. It's thinner than the previous model, but wider and a smidge heavier than the previous model.

The Mac mini includes a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 320GB hard and 2GB of RAM. It also has an HDMI port as well as an SD card slot.

While Apple has been focused primarily on the iPad and iPhone, some analysts have asked whether the company is ignoring its Mac line. The refreshed Mac mini throws those folks a bone.

The mini is 7.7 inches square and 1.4 inches thick (statement). An integrated power supply cuts clutter and Apple says its most energy efficient Mac. The latest mini cuts power consumption by 25 percent compared to the previous version.  The Mac mini also packs the latest Nvidia GeForce processor for twice the graphic performance.

Here's the tale of the tape. Latest version:

  • Height: 1.4 inches
  • Width: 7.7 inches
  • Depth: 7.7 inches
  • Weight: 3.0 pounds

And the previous version:

  • Height: 2 inches
  • Width: 6.5 inches
  • Depth: 6.5 inches
  • Weight: 2.9 pounds

On the software side, the Mac mini comes with OS X Snow Leopard and iLife.

There's also a Mac mini with Snow Leopard Server that will run you $999.
