Apple's App Store hits 15 billion download mark

Apple said Thursday that more than 15 billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store.

With its statement on the App Store, Apple also provided some key figures. Among the notable items:

  • There are 200 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users globally;
  • The App Store has more than 425,000 apps;
  • There are 100,000 native iPad apps;
  • Apple has paid developers more than $2.5 billion to date.

The App Store is Apple's moat around its tablet and smartphone businesses. Android's market is a strong No. 2 in app selection with other players HP's WebOS, Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 and Research in Motion's BlackBerry in the back of the pack.

    this number game does not makes sense to me at all. All I can say is, its good for apple.

    It may be a big number but it is just that. Given that amount of junk that fills Apple's App Store and the Android Market it is irrelevent. The number of Apps that are acutually used will be a fraction of this.
