Apple's Cook gets $5 million, stock for performance as CEO

By | March 12, 2010, 2:53pm PST

Summary: Apple’s Tim Cook gets a bonus of $5 million plus shares for filling in as CEO during Steve Jobs’ medical leave.

Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook, who filled in as CEO of the company for the first half of 2009, was awarded a one-time bonus of $5 million and 75,000 restricted shares of stock in recognition of “his outstanding performance in assuming the day-to-day operations of the Company,” according to a company filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Jobs, who announced a six-month medical leave in early January 2009, recommended the bonus to the board. Marketing VP Phil Schiller became the face of Apple, filling in for Jobs to deliver Apple’s final keynote speech at the 2009 Macworld show. But Cook was running the show from corporate offices in Cupertino while Jobs - we later learned - underwent a liver transplant.

Jobs returned to work at the end of June and has resumed his position as the company’s public face, most recently hosting a press event to announce the iPad.

Cook’s 75,000 shares will be awarded in two parts. Half are scheduled to vest on March 10, 2011 and the other half one year later, subject to Cook’s continued employment with the company.

Actually, the average hourly rate
frgough 13th Mar 2010
in China is between $.60 and $1.80 an hour, or about 800 to 2500 yuan.

Depending on where you live, a decent small apartment is around 1000
yuan a month, and food another 500 yuan.

In other words, a 2000 yuan a month salary in China is a very
comfortable living, probably equivalent to about $50k a year in the U.S.

But, of course, that destroys your little agenda doesn't it?

I've always said that comparing income levels in different countries to the US by just converting salaries into $$ is a bogus way to look at it.

It's okay if it's a Microsoft CEO, COO, etc. to get big bonuses but not one from Apple?

How do I get a job like that?

What? Where did that come from?
AllKnowingAllSeeing 12th Mar 2010
The way I read his post he was saying that as a "fill-in" CEO, as long as he didn't touch anything that Jobs had going, he gets a 5 mil bonus.

How did that equate to It's okay if it's a Microsoft CEO, COO, etc. to get big bonuses but not one from Apple?

You lost me (and probally everyone else) with that post.

Actually Arm A. Geddon, Pliney's right, you're wrong
John Zern Updated - 13th Mar 2010
I never said anything about It's okay if it's a Microsoft CEO, COO, etc. to get big bonuses but not one from Apple?

If you followed the story from early on, Jobs was taking a temporary leave of absence in which Cook was to be the interm CEO until Jobs' return.

Now, if what everybody says about Jobs is true, that all the ideas from Apple are his ideas, that he is the innovator that they claim, then it would make sense that all Cook had to do when he took over as CEO was not touch a thing (screw up) the products and projects Jobs had set in motion before he took his leave.

And for this he gets 5 million in bonus.

So yeah, I would have liked a job like that.

Oh, and if you're having trouble reading, I appologize. Next time I'll spell it out much clearer the first time.

...for some diamond drilling, mobile metal ion and beep-mat surveys at my 2.5 opt Gold claims and my PGE claims that have almost 10x the pge background levels compared to the Bushveld Complex. Re-collaring the shaft, and re-timbering the 2nd level at our Badger Silver Mine would be next, to get at that 1,300 tons of ore that grades up to 19,000 opt silver per ton. That means a 45 gallon drum of rock contains about $300,000.
What's Captain Cook gonna do? Buy a new Lambo and a yacht to keep up with the Paul Allens?

Yes, I know they will just get another one, but it will slow them down for

These spam posts are almost as tedious as the constant rantings from
the NBM and ABM trolls. Perhaps you could delete their logins as well.
