AT&T said that it is on pace to break its three-month record for smartphone sales and has moved 6 million devices in the first two months of the fourth quarter.

The news will be delivered by AT&T CFO John Stephens at an investment conference in New York. AT&T's previous record was 6.1 million smartphones in a quarter.

According to AT&T the sales reflect strong sales of Apple's iPhone 4S as well as its other devices.

In addition, Stephens said it will turn on LTE service for New York this month and plans to cover 70 million people by the end of the year.

On Tuesday, Verizon noted its first anniversary of its LTE network and took a few shots at AT&T's network via an infographic.
