BMC, CA eye IT capacity management

By | October 5, 2010, 8:30am PDT

Summary: CA said it would buy Hyperformix and BMC follows up with the purchase of Neptuny’s software business. The message: IT capacity management is hot.

BMC Software and CA Technologies have dueling IT capacity management acquisitions.

Last week, CA said it would buy Hyperformix, which provides capacity management software for physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. CA said it would use Hyperformix to expand its virtualization management tools.

On Tuesday, BMC made a similar purchase. BMC said it will acquire Neptuny’s software business. Neptuny’s software unit focused on capacity management and performance optimization. BMC said the Neptuny deal will be lumped into its Business Service Management software and cloud management products to manage physical, virtual and cloud workloads.

Both BMC and CA are working to track IT investments and performance.
