Citrix branches out to Android users with GoToMeeting app

By | September 7, 2011, 12:37pm PDT

Summary: Citrix’s mobile productivity app GoToMeeting has been helping out iOS gadget users for some time now. Now Android users are finally getting a chance at the app.

Being productive while on-the-go is becoming ever so more important these days as smartphones and tablets continue to get better, faster and, therefore, more popular.

Citrix has a few solutions focused on mobile collaboration platforms — namely GoToMeeting and Citrix Receiver.

Although the Motorola Droid 3 was the first Android smartphone to have both of these apps preinstalled, now all Android smartphone owners will have a chance at the GoToMeeting, which enables users to check in and participate in online meetings and view presentations from virtually anywhere.

The Citrix GoToMeeting app will be available from the Android Market to download for free. The app has already been optimized for the iPad and iPhone for some time now, as Citrix reports that the GoToMeeting apps for those products have already been downloaded by more than 250,000 iOS users.

There are a few system requirement catches, including that supported devices must be running Android 2.2 and above with a 1Ghz processor or higher.

And if you plan on purchasing a Motorola Droid Bionic with Verizon Wireless, which will start shipping on Thursday, then you won’t have to worry as the GoToMeeting app will be preloaded on the Gingerbread-based smartphone.

Motorola Mobility must be really enthralled by Citrix as it will also be preloading Receiver on its products “regardless of operating system or form factor.”

Just In

I downloaded it to my Android cell

1. it took up about half the system memory

2. it can NOT be moved to the SD card

3. FAIL!

One more example where the designers of a software program have the narrow vision that their program will be the only one installed on a computer. In the case of an Android cell phone that short-sighted decision is very bad for the user.

I uninstalled the app and won't revisit it until I know it can be installed to the SD chip.

Give it two months, and Matt. M. will call this WP7 must have killer app. Hence make the phone worth getting.
It'll be a two page write-up tho.

PS. This is the OS that is supposedly dead. Just read RK's blog.
@Return_of_the_jedi LOL, Android is 6 month old baby happy
@Return_of_the_jedi Yeah and some believe Google will ditch it but they're iOS fans so I know it is just anxiety and fear on their part.
