Cloud providers form alliance based around Google Apps

By | October 31, 2011, 9:01pm PDT

Summary: A group of software vendors are banding around Google Apps to promote easier solutions for business customers.

Although Google Apps might seem like a simple platform, it’s definitely one of the most prevalent cloud options as it is used by over four million companies worldwide and counting. Thus, a group of seven independent software vendors have formed an alliance, which they boast is “a first among Google Apps Marketplace vendors.”

Officially dubbed as the Cloud Alliance for Google Apps, the group is comprised of a series of business and technology partnerships designed to make it easier for Google Apps users to select and implement complementary business applications.

The seven aforementioned vendors consist of Cloud Sherpas, Expensify, Insightly, Okta, RunMyProcess, Smartsheet and Spanning.

David Politis, chairman of Cloud Alliance and vice president for Cloud Sherpas, explained in prepared remarks the basic idea behind the new group:

Most don’t have time to research, evaluate and integrate applications, they just want technology tools that work. By creating an alliance of the top Google Apps Marketplace vendors and products, we’re taking the pain out of application selection and implementation, so Google Apps users can manage and grow their businesses.

Essentially, the Cloud Alliance will work on uniting the top Google Apps Marketplace add-on applications for IT administration, CRM, security and compliance, workflow and integration, expense management, identity management, and project collaboration. The goal is to enable Google Apps users to be able to find best-of-breed applications quicker and easier.

uh who exactly are Cloud Sherpas, Expensify, Insightly, Okta, RunMyProcess, Smartsheet and Spanning?

Is this really an alliance or a dalliance?
