Cloudera's latest Hadoop stack generally available

Cloudera on Tuesday launched the third version of its Hadoop distribution with the aim of creating a data storage and analysis stack.

Hadoop was popularized by Yahoo and Google as a way to crunch vast amounts of data. Cloudera's strategy is to offer a Hadoop distribution and surround it with support similar to what Red Hat does with its business model.

Among the key points (statement):

• The Cloudera Hadoop distribution includes other open source packages such as Apache, Flume, Squoop, Oozie and Hue. In a blog post, Cloudera said that all of those moving parts are integrated "into a single artifact — the right versions, with the right bug fixes and features, tested together and packaged for easy installation."
• The third distribution is completely open source.
• According to the company the latest distribution incorporates the feedback of enterprise customers.

Cloudera has raised $25 million and is considered one of the darlings of the Hadoop analytics movement.
