Personal mobile hotspots are certainly becoming more popular by the day, and Comcast has recognized that with the introduction of Novatel’s MiFi 4082 for the Xfinity Internet 2go service.

This “pocket-sized” MiFi device is fairly straightforward as it doesn’t require a computer (although it can -plug into one via USB), and it can provide Internet access for up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices simultaneously. Users can implement a password for accessing the hotspot for extra security. Comcast promises download speeds of up to 6Mbps with 4G service and up to 1.4Mbps when on 3G.

If you don’t already have an Xfinity Internet 2go account, it would be best to verify whether or not you live in an area with 4G/3G service under this network, which you can do by using this map. Predictably, 3G coverage is abundant nationwide, but 4G is rather scattered.

The MiFi 4082 itself costs $25, which is a one-time only fee for the device but expect to pay routinely for the Xfinity Internet 2go service plan.
