This week I'll be at the Wall Street Journal's "D: All Things Digital" conference at a balmy resort near San Diego. The advertised highlight is Steve Jobs and Bill Gates making a "historic" joint appearance on stage with hosts Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher. The two will "discuss the history and future of the digital revolution in an unrehearsed, unscripted, onstage conversation," according to the press release. I would hope that Walt and Kara will ask more personal questions, and get some reflections on the battles between the two warriors who have largely defined pre-Internet computing and continue to dominate large parts of the landscape.

In addition to Jobs and Gates, D5 interviewees Steve Ballmer, Eric Schmidt, George Lucas, Les Moonves, Steve Case, Peter Chernin, John Chambers, Senator John McCain and YouTube founders Steve Chen and Chad Hurley. Also, Jeff Hawkins, one of the founders of Palm, is going to unveil a new device.

Stay tuned for coverage starting on Tuesday...
