Tomorrow the star-studded Web 2.0 Summit gets underway. Co-hosted by John Battelle and Tim O'Reilly. I will be blogging from the event over the next few days and trying to figure out, once again, the import of Web 2.0. Thematically, the Summit will focus on the following questions.

Who are the major players willing to take on new challenges, and the Davids that hold the promise of becoming Goliaths? What Web shortcomings still need to be overcome if we are to truly take the plunge into the next generation--and convince the next generation that we are listening? How can we respond positively to the cultural sea change the Web poses rather than being engulfed?

The event kicks off with Facebook wunderkind Mark Zuckerberg and continues in the evening with Fox/Dow Jones Rupert Murdoch and his employee MySpace's Chris DeWolfe. Also on tap: Steve Ballmer, Marissa Mayer, Bruce Chizen, Meg Whitman, Philippe Dauman, Vyomesh Joshi, J. Craig Venter, Mike Moritz, John Doerr to name a few (see the complete speaker list, including many who are doing the core labor that will pave the way for Web 3.0, whatever that is). I am particularly looking forward to a panel discussion, "The Semantic Edge," with W. Daniel Hillis (MetaWeb), Barney Pell (PowerSet) and Nova Spivack (Radar Networks).
