    I'm thinking they bought Sipura for the hosted PBX (service bureau) model. They are behind in the rollout of the IP Centrex solution. This is a real need in the SMB market.

  • they didn't pay $68 million for a relay

    All POTS failover requires is a relay (for loss of power cases) and a bit of logic to switch to POTS (FXO) if it can't contact the SIP server. They're not the only ones who do that (though some of the others only have the relay for loss-of-power failover, perhaps also for 911).

    So that's not the $68m reason, sorry.
