DePaul, IBM launch analytics, data mining center

Summary: IBM and DePaul University launched a center for data mining and predictive analytics. As part of the deal, DePaul will offer a Master’s of Science degree in predictive analytics.

IBM and DePaul University on Wednesday launched a center for data mining and predictive analytics. As part of the deal, DePaul will offer a Master’s of Science degree in predictive analytics.

The two parties said they hope the predictive analytics major will prepare students for industries ranging from energy to healthcare to transportation and other verticals.

DePaul will open up its data mining and analytics center in September. The center will be a joint effort of DePaul’s School of Computing and Department of Marketing. The program will feature about 30 courses, which will feature large datasets and modeling scenarios to play with.

IBM will donate software, curriculum, guest lecturers and data sets for the effort. The center is also likely to provide a pipeline of future workers for IBM too.
