EMC Greenplum has teamed up with SAS, a major analytics player, to deliver appliances.

Scott Yara, vice president of products at EMC's data computing division, said SAS, which focuses on high-end analytics for verticals like government, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, was looking for a way to scale its software offerings. Yara said the combination of EMC Greenplum and SAS will be better able to focus on the big data market.

SAS has been pushing in database memory for analytics. The EMC Greenplum Data Computing Appliance is designed to crunch big problems faster, according to Keith Collins, SAS CTO. For EMC Greenplum, SAS is a key partner to take its database machines upmarket.

The SAS on EMC Greenplum appliance will be available in the fourth quarter.

EMC also rolled out three new Greenplum Data Computing Appliances (DCAs). These appliances can scale to 864TB of uncompressed data and come with Greenplum Database 4.1. Among the additions:

  • The High Capacity EMC DCA is aimed for petabytes of data for enterprises that need to crunch large amounts of data.
  • A High Performance EMC DCA features solid-state drive storage and is built for speed.
  • A Data Integration Accelerator is an add-on designed to cut batch load times and loading.
