Gnomedex: Canter's People Aggregator
Marc Canter of Broadband Mechanics is rolling out his company's People Aggregator at Gnomedex tomorrow. People Aggregator is described on its Web site as follows:
At the center of all great Live Web software will be one’s digital identity. Each end-user will control who has access to their personal data, who can use it and how. Each end-user needs to be able to move their data to other systems – whether it be their personal profile record, list of friends, groups, their photos, MP3s, links, bookmarks or events.
We’ve designed the PeopleAggregator to lay the groundwork of a foundation platform – we call an Identity Hub. We plan on supporting on major open ID systems to create federated authentication layer. We then plan on layering on top of that platform import/export capabilities and then layer on top of that – a set of common actions which will interconnect social networks and personal publishing systems – together.
The idea is that your data doesn't have to be locked into a particular site or social network, such as MySpace. In the video Marc further explains his concept of a social network Web service. More about People Aggregator on TechCrunch, including good comments, and my podcast with Marc from last month.
