Google Chromebooks taking off with Virgin America

This certainly brings new meaning to the term "cloud computing." Virgin America is already known for gifting free Wi-Fi once in a while, usually around the holidays. Now the San Francisco-based carrier is bringing full-on computers to its flyers - specifically Google Chromebooks.

Between July 1 to September 30, select VA flights stemming from San Francisco, Dallas-Fort Worth, Boston, and Chicago will offer Chromebooks with free Wi-FI for passengers to try out. Naturally, participants in this promo just have to return the Chromebook to the airline staff upon arrival.

Additionally, in case it's not available on the plane, the following airports will be hosting "Chrome Zones" (which sounds more like some 90s kids game show on Nickelodeon) with Chromebook kiosks near departure gates: Dallas Fort-Worth, Chicago O'Hare, Boston and, of course, VA's spectacular new, eco-friendly terminal hub in San Francisco.

There is an opportunity for VA customers (or anyone with a Facebook account) to win a Google Chromebook. Those interested must sign up on Virgin America's Facebook page by July 20 for a chance not only to win one of Google's new netbooks, but also a trip to New York City and...more free Wi-Fi.

  • How much of this is cross promitional

    I know that Virgin was in the midst of a migration. How much "free advertising" is Google getting and how many months of free google service is Virgin getting?
