Google, Clearwire team up on Google Apps

Clearwire will migrate its customers to Google Apps including Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Talk.

Clearwire's move, announced Tuesday, isn't a big deal since the WiMax carrier only had 348,000 total subscribers as of Sept. 30, but does represent a nice proof of concept win for Google Apps.

In a statement, Clearwire noted that it will migrate its customers in the first half of the year to Google Apps. As part of the deal, Clearwire will use AdSense for Search to put Google's search on the wireless service provider's portals.

The Clearwire deal is one of many items Google has working in the wireless market. Last year, Google announced its Android wireless platform (all resources). The search giant will bid on 700 Mhz wireless spectrum on Jan. 24. And Google has been optimizing its Web apps for the iPhone.
