Google lays off recruiters

Google confirmed that it has been cutting contractors and now it's paring back its army of recruiters.

In a blog post, Google said it "is still hiring at a reduced rate."

The company's first step was to wind down external contracts with contractors. "We have with great regret decided that we need to go further and reduce the overall size of our recruiting organization by approximately 100 positions," said Laszlo Bock, vice president of people operations at Google.

Update: Google is also moving a few engineers around--if they choose to relocate--in an effort to create smaller, more effective teams.
