Google plans for bigger role in Microhoo scrum

Google has hired Frank Quattrone, a long-time Silicon Valley investment banker, and his firm Qatalyst as an adviser. Hiring Quattrone indicates that Google has no plans to let go quietly as Microsoft makes its play for Yahoo.
According to the New York Times' DealBook blog, Google has retained Quattrone's services. Quattrone, a controversial figure, recently launched an boutique investment firm dubbed Qatalyst. Microsoft's pursuit of Yahoo is fluid to say the least. Yahoo directors are reportedly meeting Friday to discuss the Microsoft bid and a potential deal with AOL.
Andrew Ross Sorkin and Michael J. de la Merced report:
Quattrone is advising Eric E. Schmidt, Google’s chief executive, as the Internet giant figures out its next step in the takeover struggle between Yahoo and Microsoft, people briefed on the matter told DealBook.
Mr. Quattrone’s role — his first high-profile transaction since being cleared of obstruction of justice charges last year — arrives as the drama surrounding Yahoo reaches a new level of complexity.
The fact Google has retained Quattrone--Schmidt was quoted in the Qatalyst launch press release--isn't surprising. But the move does indicate that Google is at least pondering the role of spoiler. Let's see what Quattrone cooks up.

This drama has a lot of twists and turns to it!! It will be interesting to
Why is this so scary for you?
Google I can understand, they are a business whose profits will be directlly effected by a merger.
The question is, why does it scare you so much?
Why is this so scary for Microsoft?
Simply, they're just trying to kill off the next generation of competition before it can take a hold.
It'll be great to watch Google buy the remnants of Microsoft and turn it finally into a company that produces something of value, instead of just marketing tripe and hypeware ....

More idiocy...
Perhaps you'd be happier if [insert random company name here] therefore applied for a court order to shut down Microsoft because it doesn't want Microsoft to do [insert some random thing here].
Yes!
When that business interferes, then yes.

Nope, they would have no basis to shut down Microsoft. You don't make much sense.
Say what!?!?!?
You agree that A = B, but B does not equal A. Your logic is extremely biased, and the sad part is you believe it!
I hope Google and Yahoo merge, just to spite both you and Microsoft.
A Google/Yahoo attempted merger...
One instance in which free(d) staffing is worthwhile.
Why?
So, why should the anti-trust people care if they can be assured that a Google/Yahoo thing was going to be "nice?" After all, if Microsoft/Yahoo happens, then the anti-trust people shoujdl be all over it like a rash because of the monopoly position it would give them in webmail and IM.
For what its worth, I reckon either Microsoft is insane, and Google would be if it merges with Microsoft.
Microsoft interferes with every business
Well...
*yawn*
Seriously, a court order against Google? And just what justice have they obstructed? And the search business *IS* they business. Yahoo and Google are not enemies. More like mutual competitors. Microsoft on the other hand is more or less the enemy of both of them. It should be no surprise that Google wants to help Yahoo.
If its drivel
Seriously, a court order against Google? And just what justice have they obstructed?
Yes, they are trying to obstruct a deal between Microsoft and Yahoo. Microsoft isn't the enemy here, its Google with its nonsense of getting in the way of this deal.
ok but...
Microsoft is dying
You might not have noticed (yet)
Enemy = Microsoft (put more simply for you)
Obstructing a deal by proposing their own deal? its called competition -NT
MIcrosoft is the enemy of everything not already owned by Microsoft.
Microsoft needs to mind its own business
Oh, it can't, so it wants to buy up anything that moves in the technology world.
Microsoft's days are numbered. Don't forget to sell your MSFT high Loverock, oh, and get the first clue about technology too ;-)
