HP buys security firm Fortify Software

By | August 17, 2010, 5:29am PDT

Mark Hurd may be gone, but Hewlett-Packard continues to go shopping. The company said Tuesday that it will acquire Fortify Software, which is a security and compliance company.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed in a statement. HP in recent months has been on a bit of a buying spree. The two big deals for HP were the acquisitions of 3Com and Palm.

Compared to those deals, the acquisition of Fortify is more of the tuck-in variety. Fortify’s software allow developers to layer in security and compliance protections throughout the application creation cycle. Fortify is best known for its 360 security suite.

With Fortify, HP can integrate security applications throughout its stack of hardware, software and services. Fortify will initially operate as a standalone company and later be integrated into HP’s software unit and be part of the business technology optimization portfolio.

HP and Fortify know each other well. The two collaborated on security analysis and other technologies.
