The only more buzzworthy topic in the IT world beyond cloud computing these days would have to be security.

Hewlett-Packard is responding with over a dozen new solutions tailored to meet the demands of enterprise-level security concerns. It's not news to anyone that malware and hacking crimes have increased dramatically in the last year. So much so that during a session at Intel's Software Media Day last week, Vimal Solanki, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Intel, affirmed that there have been more malware attacks in 2011 than in past 10 years combined.

HP's own research has found that more than 50 percent of top business and technology executives included on a survey admitted that security breaches within their organizations have increased during the last year. Additionally, almost 30 percent said they experienced a security breach via unauthorized internal access, and 20 percent responded that they had experienced an external breach.

Thus, here are some of the products being added to HP's Enterprise Security Solutions portfolio:

  • ArcSight Express 3.0: Delivers correlation, log management and user-activity monitoring to improve an organization’s ability to detect and prevent cyber threats in a more timely manner
  • Reputation Security Monitor: Enables ArcSight clients with an advanced, real-time list of known bad IP and DNS addresses to combat attacks that exploit vulnerabilities
  • Enterprise Cloud Service: End-point threat management system designed to defend desktops and laptops against viruses, spyware, malware and other malicious items by blocking communication and installing unwanted apps
  • TippingPoint Web Application Digital Vaccine 2.0: Protects commercial and customized online applications with real-time identification of vulnerabilities in web apps using custom filters made by HP’s DV team
  • Security Information and Event Management: Logs security-relevant events for monitoring activity company-wide
  • Application Security Testing-as-a-Service: Identifies and closes security vulnerabilities in the application layer to reduce the risk, time and investment needed to deliver software security assurance

Senior-level executives and CIOs will be able to continually monitor these solutions using HP's new Secure Boardroom online portal, which combines existing sources of security data into one central system for better insight as to how facilities are working.
