Hewlett-Packard's CEO search reportedly boils down to three internal candidates, according to various reports.

The Wall Street Journal, following a Bloomberg report last week, indicates that HP is looking at Todd Bradley, the company's PC chief, Ann Livermore, who runs the services unit, and Dave Donatelli, an EMC alum who is in charge of servers, storage and networking, as potential candidates.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the Journal notes that HP isn't going to name a CEO "in the next several days."

Apparently, the board is still considering outsiders, but most signs point to an insider. Why? HP doesn't have a lot of time to give a new exec a long learning curve. Oracle and IBM appear to be in co-opetition mode to take on HP.

Bradley or Donatelli would be likely picks. Bradley has the experience and has done well leading HP's PC business. Donatelli spent more than two decades at EMC. Both would be able to allay any customer concerns about HP. Livermore is another candidate, but has been in the running before to be CEO.

    HP would do well to get the Indian guy who runs the printer divisions mainly because:
    1. They are less corrupt
    2. more hard working
    3. more technical in nature

  • If one person makes such a difference ...

    then you would think that HP would spend the necessary time to find the *right* person. Frankly, it doesn't speak well of any of the existing executives or board members that somebody like Hurd was considered indispensable in the first place.

  • Rhonda Vetere for CEO

    HP would be wise to appoint industry guru Rhonda Vetere as CEO to replace Mark Hurd. Carly Fiorina is closing in on a successful Senate victory, and probably is not coming back.

    Rhonda Vetere would be the most ideal internal successor as HP seriously needs to resume business as usual immediately without losing momentum.
