IBM acquires Green Hat, a cloud software testing outfit

When the deal closes, Green Hat will be folded into IBM's Rational Software unit, which provides lifecycle management tools
Written by Larry Dignan, Contributor

IBM said that it has acquired Green Hat, which provides software quality and testing for cloud computing tools.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

In a nutshell, Green Hat conducts software testing as a service before it is delivered. Typically, these simulation tools eat up hardware and software resources that eat up time and labor.

Green Hat provides a virtual test environment that can be spun up in minutes. The general idea behind Green Hat is that dev teams can avoid rework.

When the deal closes, Green Hat will be folded into IBM's Rational Software unit, which provides lifecycle management tools. IBM will offer Green Hat's testing tools through its IBM Global Business Services' Application Management Services (AMS), which provides managed services for software.

Here's an overview of Green Hat's testing model.
