IBM launches new analytics centers in Europe

By | September 22, 2010, 9:01pm PDT

IBM on Thursday will launch three new analytics centers in Europe designed to hone processes and focus on new systems and services.

Each center will be focused on specific industries and analytics issues. The centers—based in Zurich, Switzerland; Budapest, Hungary; and Vienna, Austria—will complement IBM’s other seven analytic hubs around the world.

The build out comes just a few days after IBM spent $1.7 billion for Netezza, a data warehousing and analytics appliance provider.

Here’s the breakdown of the new analytics centers:

  • The Zurich hub will focus on financial services and public sector analytics. Fraud, financial, brand and reputation and traffic management will be focus areas.
  • In Budapest, IBM will focus on recruiting students for careers in analytics. Applied mathematics will be applied to infrastructure, transportation and logistics at ELTE University.
  • Vienna will be devoted to analytics for supply chains, smart grids, cities and planning.
