IBM layoffs underway, union says
Of the cuts tabulated by the Alliance@IBM/CWA Local 1701 union, most of the layoffs are happening in IBM's Integrated Technology Delivery (ITD) unit. That unit is focused on delivering security, help desk and project management services.

ITD has a significant presence in India already.
IBM continuously reshuffles its employee base and saved $474 million from cutting jobs in 2009. For context, the current cuts amount to less than 1 percent of IBM's 399,409 workers.
It's been a rough few weeks for IT services workers. HP recently laid off EDS workers as part of a three-year restructuring plan.
