Nokia has lost in yet another race to Apple, but this is actually a first for the iPhone maker, according to a new report from global mobile ad network InMobi.

VentureBeatis reporting that Apple has surpassed Nokia for the first time for mobile ad requests in Europe during the second quarter of 2011.

Essentially, that means that more mobile ad requests were drawn from iOS devices than Nokia-branded mobile products. In fact, one in five mobile ads that popped up on mobile devices in Europe were on an iOS device. Here's the breakdown on some of the big numbers:

  • Apple’s European ad share grew by 3.3 points to 19.5 percent
  • Nokia’s European ad share dropped 0.9 points to 18.7 percent
  • Both Apple and Nokia saw over 2 billion ad impressions each during Q2
  • Apple garnered a 90 million impression lead

While those numbers make it look like Apple is the leader for mobile ads in Europe, that's not exactly the case. Google's Android OS still is still on top with 24.9 percent share in European mobile ads.

Even more surprisingly, Research In Motion scratched through to grow by 6.1 points to 15.7 percent of the overall mobile ad market share.

In related InMobi news, another new report directly from InMobi reveals that the mobile ad network has multiplied five times over in the United States, reaching over 83 million US mobile consumers through six billion monthly ad impressions.
