Intel brings Cloud SSO to Salesforce's Force.com

Intel is bringing a cloud-based identity solution to Salesforce.com's social and mobile development platform, Force.com, as another option for secure and convenient access to popular enterprise apps.

Backed by security solutions from its subsidiary McAfee, Intel's Cloud SSO offers single sign-on capabilities using Salesforce.com credential to log into Force.com and thousands of connected applications, such as Google Apps, Box's cloud storage space and Cisco WebEx.

Although single sign-on is a lot simpler for most web users -- especially because users can log in faster and only have to use one set of credentials -- there will likely be plenty of questions about security as well.

On its Cloud SSO, Intel is putting a lot of power in the hands of IT managers to regulate the single sign-on process. This includes user account provisioning/de-provisioning, a portal for designated authorized cloud apps, and a two-factor strong authentication system for access from mobile devices.

From there, enterprise customers can also sync up the Cloud SSO data with existing on-premise and cloud-based identity and account infrastructures.

The trial version of Intel Cloud SSO is available immediately from Intel and on Salesforce’s AppExchange marketplace.

    It's great to see that leading companies in their respective verticals are giving users the perfect balance between security and user experience by moving to the use of a telephone (mobile or other) as a form of a token where the user is asked to telesign into their account by entering a one-time PIN code which is delivered to your phone via SMS or voice. Or if you don't want to do this every single time, some offer the option to designate your smartphone, PC, or tablet as a trusted device and they will allow you to enter without the text code. Should an attempt to login from an unrecognized device happen, it would not be allowed.
