Intel grooms Andy Bryant to be next chairman

Intel's board of directors has crafted a new position for Andy Bryant in order to prep him as Intel's next chairman.

Formerly Intel's chief financial officer and current chief administrative officer, Bryant has been appointed as the vice chairman of the board. Intel is gearing up to elect him as chairman next year once the current chairman, Jane Shaw, retires in May 2012.

With the addition of Bryant, Intel's board of directors now stands at 11 members.

Intel provided background in a statement as to why Bryant has been selected for this position:

The election of Bryant follows a long corporate practice of senior officer and board succession planning in which the board seeks to identify a person with the particular skills and experience considered most appropriate at the time. Bryant brings a wealth of experience at Intel that includes 13 years of service as CFO, and more recently, as the senior executive responsible for the Technology and Manufacturing Group, Information Technology, Human Resources and Finance.

Along with be a director at Columbia Sportswear Company and Kryptiq, Inc., Andy Bryant already serves on the board of McKesson, the healthcare distributor. He also heads up McKesson's finance committee and serves on the audit committee.
