ZDNet readers:

Our engineers are performing some scheduled maintenance this Sunday, May 1, from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. ET. (West Coast readers, that's 10 p.m. Saturday night through 7 a.m. Sunday.)

During this outage, you won't be able to do any of the following things on ZDNet:

  • Register for a new account.
  • Log in to your existing account.
  • Make changes to your account information (e-mail address, password, etc.)
  • Post a comment.
  • Vote on/thumbs up anything.
  • Download a white paper.
  • Download software.
  • Subscribe to any of our newsletters or individual blog alerts.

You will still be able to read everything on ZDNet -- just not interact with it.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. Our engineers say they don’t anticipate the process to take longer than eight hours -- 6.5 hours of migration, 2.5 hours of verification -- but we’ll post another update if things change.

Thank you, The CBSi Business Technology Team

  • It is also about time...

    the several annoying glitches in the talkbacks are fixed, including treating edits as spam and requiring a text input to simply report spam. If I click the "spam" box, why does it require me to type ANYTHING? If you want my help, why do you make it hard for me??????

    • Working on it, we promise!

      @Economister The TalkBack section is already on the calendar to be addressed, I assure you. Stay tuned!

        I expressed my aggravation about this and other issues since the change over (what was that .. about a year ago?) in your current poll. Now you are saying one of the many issues with the site (since that changeover) is on the calendar. Really? This is a Tech site ... right?
        Unbelievable!

        @andrew.nusca Switching off the clou? In the old days there would have not been any down time...
- leave the system run on a redundant load balanced one
- upgrade on cluster of servers and load balancers
- put the upgraded and mirrored back online
- do the same upgrades to the redundant cluster
...today should be an even smoother process, but looks like it is not so good luck to all the engineers doing OT at ZD this weekend... to them my personal "thank you for putting in a weekend guys!" even if that's so that we can all keep babbling about tech and semi-irrelevant issues ;P That doesn't lower my appreciation for taking care of the upgrade... so a round of applause to the engineers behind the curtain!

      @Economister
Exactly.

      @andrew.nusca
      And at the same time, if you could bring back negative ranking to the posts like the old one was doing, it would be awesome.

    I would like to know which platform you're using today and which platform you're migrating to and why. Please?

    I know it's been a while since I was in school. But doesn't 6.5 hours and 2.5 hours make 9 hours??????

    Do appreciate the extra effort to maintain the computer system. Have no porblem with the down time. Won't be online during that time anyway.

    Basically, I only comment on the Talkbacks anyways. Software ain't worth cluttering up my drive with. Haven't voted since you removed the ability to vote down. The blogs are horrible enough here, I'd hate to read any "whitepapers."
