Nearly two years has passed since Sun COO/president started rattling the "get indemnified or else" saber. Now, Microsoft is extending to almost all of its customers the same indemnification that it once reserved for big corporations. For the most part, I've been pro-indemnification. But, to be honest, since the issue first moved to the front burner, there still haven't been any lawsuits where indemnification would have made a difference to the defendant (nope, not even Daimler Chrysler or Autozone). So, now, I'm wondering (in my latest column) whether this indemnification business is all it's cracked up to be, or if it's just a red herring. Even Dell, which pre-installs Linux for its customers, says it's a non-issue.
