Microsoft Xbox 360 continues winning streak, tops sales chart in June

By | July 15, 2011, 2:09pm PDT

Summary: Microsoft and its Xbox 360 continue to top the gaming console sales charts, soundly beating Sony and Nintendo once again.

Microsoft and its Xbox 360 continue to top the gaming console sales charts, soundly beating Sony and Nintendo once again.

Although video game console sales dropped significantly in June, research firm NPD reported that Microsoft sold approximately 507,000 Xbox 360 units to consumers in the month of June.

The Xbox 360 has led the way for the last several months. Last month, NPD reported that approximately 270,000 units were sold in May. There aren’t any definite reasons for the uptick, except perhaps some new games compatible with Kinect that were showcased at E3 2011 in Los Angeles during early June.

Electronista notes that the Xbox 360 sold “nearly twice as many” systems than those from competitors, although Nintendo was the runner up with the new 3DS console. It’s likely that the price cut to $150 for the Wii also helped Nintendo significantly.

Sony isn’t doing as well, which can also partially be attributed to the fact that it is still reeling after the hacking attacks in April. However, given how many other security breaches there have been since then to other major corporations and governments on the parts of Lulz Security and Anonymous, Sony isn’t alone in its shame anymore. It just led to the opening of the flood gates.

RedHat, Canonical, and other Linux distro companies are not charging customers anything to dowload and use Linux, why isn't DOJ investigating this rubbing?

Has no one else lowered their prices? Or are you just a MS hater? Because if they did, most consumers would be happy about that.
@FuzzyBunnySlippers
Actually Microsoft?s deal, consisting of a Free xbox360 is most likely impacting the shipped numbers.

@FuzzyBunnySlippers enjoy your ignorance (wanting accurate information now a mental illness)
@FuzzyBunnySlippers Richard Flude is an Apple stockholder and a MS hater. He always feels the need to say negative things about MS. If he is so happy with Apple products why does he need that? Because he is a stingy imbecile

Good thing...

MS listened to all the "experts" and got out of the console market because it didn't have a chance to compete, would always lose money and would never be a strategic asset to the company's future.

Oh, wait...
