Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer revealed that Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) will have support for running non-Windows systems (e.g., Linux, Solaris).  WS-Management Web services were used by MOM to manage a Solaris box in a demo given at the Microsoft Management Summit 2005 in Las Vegas. In addition, the Microsoft Virtual Server will have support for Linux-based virtual machines in a service pack update due later this year. This doesn't mean that Ballmer or Microsoft has greatly appreciate for Linux, but the systems management world for enterprise computing must be friendly and respectful to all relevant parties...

  • Getting in with Linux will be in thier favor.

    You can be sure that Microsoft will eventually have to embrace Linux since thier customer base is going to. It's just in thier best interest to do so. If you can't beat'em join'em or at least let them play in the same ball game! Linux is a force to be recond with and it will be smart for them to start now then when its too late.
