Excellent opportunity! This would be a great way to get your foot in the door with Microsoft. After that you can work your way up the ranks and into the corporate office where all the fun really is. I do hope they open a store in my area, I'm quite interested to see what they have to offer.

Is this your only way into getting a job with Microsoft or just your dream job (working in retail)?

As a Microsoft software/hardware salesman.
B.O.F.H. Updated - 22nd Aug 2009
If you want to work at Microsoft (in any capacity beyond being an in store sales rep) you should send your resume to Microsoft HR. Working as a sales clerk/rep in either the SoCal or Arizona stores is largely entry level and you will only work in that store, not in either Mountain View, Ca or Redmond, Wa in any significant capacity.

To work in the stores, you will need to meet the following requirement ( links below):

"Lifting/carrying 75 pounds (loading and unloading all those great products and carrying purchases out for our customers will be required!)"

It won't hurt your cool level, because you don't have any.

As for anyone else, working at a MS outlet is a sure way to get laughed at.

So go for it!

Amusing job requirements...
B.O.F.H. 21st Aug 2009
From Silicon Alley Insider , August 21:

The company is recruiting associates for its retail stores, and the ability to lift heavy weights is one of the requirements applicants must fulfill, TechFlash points out:

"Lifting/carrying 75 pounds (loading and unloading all those great products and carrying purchases out for our customers will be required!)"

Not interested? How about the Store Manager post? It requires lifting only 50 pounds.

Anyone interested?

Windows Clothing Line
jabailo1 21st Aug 2009
Microsoft should start a clothing line...maybe some hiphop jackets with an air brushed picture of Steve Ballmer's head on the back.

Then instead of geeks with polo shirts, they could hire hot chicks like the ones who work at H & M and Forever 21.
