The FCC’s Broadband plan, chatter around an iPhone on Verizon (or not) and a buzz word called cloudwashing, are today’s top headlines. Get the day’s rolling posts via Twitter, RSS, or email.

Here are the key themes for Friday, May 7:

The Federal Communications Commission is proposing a quick and easy fix that helps it get around a court ruling and back to the business of ensuring that every American has access to broadband. The plan essentially gives regulatory authority over “the transmission component” of broadband but not other elements. But that’s not the part of the deal that has sparked some criticism.

Imagine the possibilities if the iPhone came to Verizon - just don’t hold your breathe. A new survey found the more than half of Verizon’s customers would buy an iPhone but an analyst this week said that won’t happen at least until next year. And for those who no longer want to wait, take a read of Christopher Dawson’s experience with the Droid Incredible. His experience is very similar to mine.

It’s the latest thing in the enterprise: cloudwashing, slapping the “cloud” term on old technology and showcasing it to customers as an example of tech hipness. Larry Dignan explores how some big enterprise shops are cloudwashing by buying cloud startups.

It doesn’t really matter what we think of Microsoft’s Kin One and Kin Two mobile devices. They’re targeted at teens. And so Matthew Miller’s two teenage daughters are taking the reviewer’s reins for this assignment.

There’s been some Facebook backlash lately and Jason Perlow, for one, has had it with privacy compromises on the social networking site. To “illustrate” just how much, he’s put together a gallery of step-by-step directions on how to lock down your Facebook account.
