Here’s the recap for Thursday, April 22, 2010:

It was a bad day for McAfee, where a defective update caused a worldwide meltdown of XP PCs. And this isn’t just an unplug and reboot sort of fix. Who’s impacted? Some of the earliest reports came out of Kentucky, where police were among those whose systems went down.

Facebook, however, was the day’s starlet, announcing a web-wide “open graph” that brings Facebook sharing to the greater web. Among the hot topics: privacy concerns, Microsoft Docs and education. Is this a Google Docs killer? And by putting itself at the center of the Web, has Facebook won the web war against Google?

Details about Dell’s entry into not only the tablet scene but also smartphones have emerged over at Engadget. Matthew Miller has the details of the lineup and Sean Portnoy looks into the Looking Glass as an iPad competitor.

More earnings to report: eBay’s Q1 was solid but Q2 outlook disappoints; iPhone helps AT&T in Q1; EMC has a strong Q1 and raised its outlook for Q2. Also: Quality products drive Apple’s growth; International markets are sweet spot for iPhone - and others.

Something fun: The NYTimes is calling on all photographers - amateur or pro - to help capture a moment in time: specifically Sunday, May 2 at 15:00 UTC (that’s 8 a.m. for this Californian). It’s a worldwide online effort - and everyone is invited, even if you have a camera phone.
