Okta on Tuesday launched a free trial to land more IT administrators for its on-demand identity and access services. The move comes as VMware announced plans for a similar product dubbed Horizon App Manager.
The startup’s free trial will last for 30 days. The company also rolled out two editions of its identity management services—a Single Sign-On Edition for $5 a month per user and a Standard Edition at $10 per user a month. VMware’s Horizon App Manager is designed for both personal and enterprise use with a price tag of $30 a year per user. VMware’s plan is to extend on-premise identity management tools via software as a service.
As noted previously, Okta is positioned as an identity management and directory for enterprise cloud applications. Companies increasingly have multiple on-demand services and cloud identity management is likely to be a focus of enterprises.
Okta, which is funded by Andreessen Horowitz, has had some heavy-hitter clients for months and now it has the on-boarding process down to where all administrators can give it a spin. “We’re taking the guiderails off so administrators can use Okta on their own,” said CEO Todd McKinnon. “This is the culmination of a couple of years of technical change so it’s easy to link to an instance.”
The company also launched new features including step-by-step implementation tools and tutorials, an admin dashboard and workflow support and better reporting.
