Okta launches new edition, targets better cloud integration

By | August 25, 2011, 5:00am PDT

Summary: In a continuing push to get a large base of IT admins as subscribers, Okta launches a directory integration edition that is aggressively priced.

Okta, an on-demand identity management company, on Thursday launched a new edition of its service to get enterprises up and running on cloud deployments faster.

The edition, dubbed Okta Directory Integration Edition, is designed to better integrate with existing corporate directory services and application programming interfaces (APIs). According to Okta, the integration edition was developed with Salesforce.com, Workday and Google Apps. Okta’s general idea is to focus on turnkey adoption. If successful, Okta can theoretically add more customers.

On the price side of the equation, Okta also is pricing the integration edition to grab more users. Okta will price its latest offering at $1 a user per month.

In addition, Okta’s Directory Integration Edition integrates cloud applications directly to Microsoft’s Active Directory. In many cases, enterprises build their own bridge from cloud apps to Active Directory.

The Active Directory integration as well as Okta’s desktop password management service means there won’t be the need for additional passwords on both the PC and Mac.
