Oracle hops on big data bandwagon, to launch NoSQL database

Summary: At Oracle’s OpenWorld powwow next week, the company will look downright big data happy.

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has said that the company’s database strategy is to take new technologies and absorb them. Next up: Big data and NoSQL.

At Oracle’s OpenWorld powwow next week, the company will look downright big data happy. Here’s a snippet from the OpenWorld agenda.

Ellison outlined the big data strategy on the company’s first quarter earnings conference call. He said:

Hadoop and all of the associated utilities with Hadoop which is used — they use the term big data for all that, is going to be one of the feeder systems to the Oracle database. We have announced interfaces that allow you to go — to take your Hadoop systems and connect them to Oracle systems so you can load your Hadoop data into Oracle. So we think it’s going to increase the usage of Oracle.

Ellison elaborated:

Now people are talking a lot about unstructured data and things like Autonomy. Oracle’s strategy has always been to integrate additional types of data into the Oracle database. A lot of the Sun-structured data, whether it’s video or audio, images, all of those, we think the transition continues. We started relational, then objects, then text, then XML, now a lot of different types of unstructured data types all going into the Oracle database. Finally, big data or the searching of large amounts of data using Hadoop. After Hadoop finishes filtering the data, the place you want to put that data is in Oracle database and that’s what a lot of customers are doing.

And we are exploiting the trend, the big data technology and the big data trend, if you prefer, by building a Hadoop appliance that attaches to the Oracle Exadata database or any Oracle database, for that matter. But you don’t have to buy our Hadoop appliance if you can use whatever servers you want running Hadoop and we provide the interface between Hadoop and the Oracle database. The idea is all of your data should be — you should be able to put all of your data regardless of data type into the Oracle database where it can be stored securely and reliably and you can search it and get answers to your questions very quickly.

Yeah, Go Ahead

Ok go ahead and launch a NoSQL DBMS with 153264875$ Per Core Per Query license!
In front of Cassandra, HBase and others what you build is not technically a NoSQL DBMS. It is a complete implementation of crap.
@majidazimi ummm... have you seen/alpha/beta tested the product or just trolling for fun. Just asking!
@prasanna_vps No. Just for fun. But here is the thing: NoSQL market is alot different than relational DBs. You can not just release something and say this is my product, come and pay 1254875$. This market is very new. Enterprise will not use(I mean trust) any product unless they see success stories about it(relational systems have been working for long time so you can trust almost any product) and the key to have success stories is to be open source in this market.(facebook using Cassandra, Yahoo is using going with Hadoop and HBase). As long as we know oracle will not release any open source product. Is there any successful close source NoSQL DBMS out there??? This is why Oracle will suck building a NoSQL DBMS.
