The Pixi is a thin device with a visible keyboard. It will run on Sprint. The focus of the device revolves around messaging---it links information from Google, Facebook and Exchange while integrating with Yahoo and LinkedIn.

Facebook will also contribute a new application to interact with the Pixi, which will be showcased at Fashion Week in New York.

Among the other details:

  • Pixi will have various covers for the fashion conscious;
  • Pixi will synch with iTunes and allow music purchase from Amazon over the air;
  • It's 3.51 ounces;
  • 8GB of storage;
  • The device will run you $149.99 with a two year service contract after a $150 instant rebate and $100 mail-in rebate.

    • How is Palm going to keep up....

      ...with a new Android device being announced what seems like every other day. Motorola may announce multiple ones tomorrow. Palm doesn't have the Apple/IPhone type of status to stay in the news on top of the Android onslaught. So it seems to me Palm may be in some real trouble.

    The only difference between the Pixi and Pre keyboards that I can see is the Pixi keyboard doesn't have any orange keys. It's still got the key that does what the Orange key did. It's just not orange.

    C'mon Palm just go back and support Palm OS on 64 bit OS's and improve on what was working to start with. Add GPS data flow that is usable by other apps, Rev A support and a faster processor and better battery on the old Palm 755p and it is still the best pocket device out there. If it ain't broke don't fix it!!!!

    • hrm...

      PalmOS is ancient garbage, sorry. I have had most of the Treos and while they usually tend to work well they freeze up, can't multitask in any reasonable way (yeah, some apps fake it well, but try to use SSL/SSH with one), do random crazy stuff and can't even manage to lock the screen properly. Want a good phone? Buy one running Linux (WebOS, Android, Maemo, etc). Want to run PalmOS apps? Buy an emulator for your phone. They're cheap. Maemo's PalmOS emulator from Access is free, even.
